I heard this statistic the other day. There are 120,000 registered “EV’s”, electronic vehicles in the entire state of Texas. However, there are also 23.7 million Texans that hold a driver’s license, out of a total state population of 29,000,000. So most adults in Texas hold a valid driver’s license. But get this, only 1/2 of 1% of Texas drivers are operating an electronic vehicle.
What does all this mean? I can tell you what it means to me – the good news is that as long as improvements in the development of batteries for new EV’s continue, the market for electronically operated vehicles looks wide open. However, there’s only one problem – the bad news. The bad news is that if you’re thinking about being early to the party by getting one of these, with only .5% of Texans driving one to me that means we cannot expect infrastructure along roads and highways ample enough to charge these vehicles for quite some time [because I don’t know about you but charges good for only 300 miles scare the b-gee-bees out of me.] Do you fear your battery running out while climbing a Texas freeway overpass? I do, [I’m getting chills just thinking about it]. Years, if not decades could be required before the state of Texas has ample charging facilities to support millions and millions of EV’s over Texas roads.
And who pays for all this? Where does the money come from? Has anyone told Ford and Elon Musk and GM that they will have to foot the bill for building out charging stations to support their own vehicles? You’re probably talking 10’s of millions of dollars per state, and there’s 50 of these! They are not going to be able to pass along this cost of infrastructure inside their vehicle unit prices. In fact, in my opinion these EVs are way over-priced already!… this all goes to show once again that being early to a “tech party” has its downside.
XOM, CHV, VLO… Will control charging stations. The big boys have the footprint required. Government will follow your every move to charge you an extra road use tax that will be managed by 103 new government agencies. Just can’t wait Czar Kerry!
You’re correct about that, if these majors can’t sell gasoline anymore. Guess what? They’ll use gasoline to make the electricity required to run EVs and sell that. The “Woke Liberals are too dumb to understand where electricity actually comes from… LMBO! Grade A+ comment again my man, you’re on a roll!!!
