Why Not “Idiot Proof” It?

Why Not “Idiot Proof” It?

It all began when was looking for a recipe idea online one afternoon for what I had on hand for dinner. [Not that unusual over here]. I had a Ribeye [or NY Strip] Steak, Beef Broth, some Mushrooms, an Onion, and one package of Instant Mashed Potatoes. I came up with this brilliant idea, why not cook a steak smothered in mushroom gravy placed on top of a bed mashed potatoes? There was only one problem with my idea – I had never successfully accomplished this, only dreamed of how good it could be. So I googled this recipe idea. I was not expecting to find much on it but to my surprise, someone out there placed a recipe on YouTube video with this very idea, and he named his recipe, “Idiot-Proof Steak with Mushroom Gravy”. So I followed his simple recipe [mostly]. My dinner turned out well. Still some improvements can be made but I found what I needed, that’s what this story is about. It’s all about when me [and possibly you] cannot afford to screw something up. When we have to get something right the first time, that requires following an “Idiot-Proof” recipe.

So I thought about taking this idea a bit further, how about “Idiot-Proofing” everything in my life? I think this is somewhat related to the idea of “Intelligent Design”. Let me explain the connection here. Intelligent Design is beyond our human capacity to understand but we can make some clear observations. Within our humanity there exists this pattern which occurs over and over, somewhat like in mathematical terms, an axiom; that is to say that the trash usually takes its own self out. Like in many instances we don’t have to personally deal with it [unless we choose to]. Funny how that works but unsuccessful things in life still go obsolete, and rather quickly, or, at least it used to be this way. Unfortunately, one could make the argument that it’s not the case anymore. Seems like there is no shortage of idiots pushing their idiot ideas out there. However, I will say we should never confuse the time it takes to right the ship with the fact that the ship will one day be righted.

People who live a self-destructive existence should be allowed to self-destruct on their own [that’s how stuff works]. I found the very best thing to do is to leave these folks to self-destruct and they’ll accomplish it without drawing me [or anyone else] in. Would you jump in to save a drowning victim? Most of us would make a good attempt at it. But if there’s time to pose a question, would it be impolite for me to ask – “why are they drowning and/or what are they drowning from”? Could it be their own stupidity? If so, then I probably would choose not to get involved. I avoid these kind of self-made idiots. I’m far from perfect and the world we live in is imperfect, as we all can sometimes fall victim to curve balls but when idiocy is on full display I back off. And so far I’d have to say my strategy has worked quite well. We all hear of people in the news that thrive on constant drama, surrounding themselves with insane amounts of toxicity. When one looks for trouble guess what is most easy to find? You guessed it, “trouble”. On the contrary, want to feel what “Idiot-Proofing” your life might taste like? I began by using my favorite cut of steak smothered in “Idiot-Proof” mushroom gravy… mmm-mmm, love it! 🙂

if you can’t swim, you’ve got no business in the deep end of the pool. If you can’t figure that out, well then your from the shallow end of the gene pool! You need a hardy red wine, brown gravy mix and mushrooms. Voila!
