Rocky Mountain High… [in Colorado]

Pictured is a typical tee box @ Lakota Links Golf Course where the altitude is 6,000 ft. high. Ever wanted to tee off across multiple canyons? Why not? LMAO! Well here’s your chance. In just about every hole at Lakota you’re crossing [at least] one canyon. The place used to be known as Lakota Canyons Golf Club. And the real estate facing the fairways is beautiful, especially if you like the sound of only 2,500-3,000 sq. ft. going for $5-10 million dollars, then just maybe this area IS for you? 🙂

Played golf on a couple courses northwest of the Aspen area. Returned a day late, my flight was cancelled they had to close the runway when a private plane came in for a landing and hydroplaned off the runway spilling jet fuel. You know Aspen, seems like everyone but infrequent visitors has their own plane [almost]. Cleaning that up turned into a long delay, soon enough the FAA halted all landings and take-offs until they could clean it up, then they had to inspect it for safety. Needless to say, everyone was panicking about where to stay overnight Monday until our commercial flight could leave early Tuesday. Tons of people were inconvenienced, several missing connecting flights, and you heard all their stories in that small airport. Luckily I was able to book a room in a hotel very close in proximity. So I got to see more of Aspen than I thought I ever would, even chatted with the pilot that was to fly us out of there at the bar and he did eventually get us all back [to Dallas]. A job well done for a 28-year old!

I always meet interesting people on these out-of-state golf excursions. One example, the gentleman pictured teeing off above is a retired Secret Service Agent that has protected seven different Presidents plus a ton of visiting diplomats. A pretty decent golfer and a real nice guy, he was part of our foursome on that day. Airport personnel let us board the plane yesterday afternoon while the mess on the runway was being cleaned up and the plane hauled off. So there’s this lady sitting in the seat next to me and we start a conversation, turns out she was on her way to Italy for a friend’s wedding. She was married to a professional musician for years that was in Jimmy Buffet’s band and also performed numerous times with John Denver, so I got to hear all about her [marriage to a rocker] interesting life.

Is Aspen the new “Fedora” of things? It is a beautiful area as there are so many picturesque places in Colorado. It gets chilly there at night, even in the month of August. Maybe that’s what’s behind the fact that I saw numerous women, really most of them, [and even some men], sporting fedora hats. I guess nothing says you’re from Colorado like wearing a fedora these days, eh?

[Addendum: I can see myself visiting a ton more golf courses all across the United States. I’ve now [only] played on courses in Texas, Oklahoma, Montana, Florida, and Colorado. The list is too short. One thing that’s really cool is that each location had it’s own indigenous version of what a golf course should be – can be – is…] 🙂
