“Morning of the Carnival” is my favorite track from Pat Metheny’s latest album, “Dream Box”. I found the notes in this one refreshing which is what I have come to expect from this artist over the years. Metheny’s talent has never disappointed in taking my ears to newly discovered musical territory. Although I will have to say if you’re looking for that big band sound you won’t find it anywhere in this collection of songs. His new 9-song compilation sounds pretty much like Metheny is “on his own”? I’m not certain if the contemporary jazz artist recorded all the string instruments himself or not for this project, but I know he’s certainly capable of doing that. Nothing like a Pat Metheny tune and a hot cup of your favorite libation now that the Winter is upon us – enjoy!
