“Last Stop in Yuma County”, a film review

Have you ever checked Rotten Tomatoes before seeing a film? I do this all the time now, there’s so much low quality crap out there including films with shitty actors in them like Will Smith and George Clooney. Especially when a film is about to take up 2-1/2 to 3 hours of my life I’m definitely going to want to know beforehand “is this thing worth that amount of my time”, or not? When I read a brief description of the film plot, I thought to myself, “Last Stop in Yuma County”, will probably not hold my interest so I left it alone. That was wrong – a couple days later I looked at the scores given to it by Rotten Tomatoes and they were [relatively speaking] off the charts compared to other recently released flicks. So I thought, okay, I’ll trust the numbers and give this one a try.

For those who have not sat through this one yet, I want to assure you this film will not waste 1-1/2 hours of your life, not at all. The film’s creators did a surprisingly good job of realism in settings and character casting. Set in the 1970’s in the desert West, “Last Stop in Yuma County” reveals a couple truths about the human existence; one, many people are not above taking unscrupulous short cuts [in life]; and two, a life of crime usually does not pay, instead it comes back to bite you in the ass! How many times have we seen films in past decades depicting that crime pays? This film does a good job of distinguishing itself as something totally different and keeps the audience wondering what could possibly happen next?

I recommend giving “Last Stop in Yuma County” a screen visit. Here’s a film that will require your full attention from beginning to end so as not to miss any of the connections [or puzzle pieces] that fit together and make a conclusion. I’m going to rate this film a solid 3.5 out of 5.0 and send out kudos to the writers, directors and cast members. I thought they also nailed the musical score selections throughout the film as these were excellent also. My Only Warning: if you have little ones running around then hold their ears as this film does contain Strong Language!… and until next time, Ciao!
