I’m on this one dating site, only one, which shall remain nameless. It’s not the oldest and most well-known dating site out there but it’s one of the more popular ones. Not a hook-up site, as sincere and genuine singles use it. As a side note, I really would like to find one special person to date but I keep stepping on my own feet by sending funny quips whenever it shows me a new lady’s profile. I can’t help it, it’s like I have a tendency to turn on the smartass when I should just be polite and respond in a sincere tone. Like today, a new lady’s profile came up, she was pleasant looking, educated, she said [among other things] “I want to find a man who has a stable job and is mature and [he’s this and he’s that…]” Of course, I sent her a smartass reply “I don’t have a job and I have never ever acted my age [both of which are true], but other than that, I’m a real catch!” 🙂 Now, I ask you what is this woman supposed to think/do with that message? Okay, there’s greater than a 50% chance she will realize that no man ever acts his own age [though some are good at faking it] so that one quip could get a chuckle out of her but only if she has a personality? And she might even see through me not having a job, or wanting a job, or even needing a job? However, the jury is still out on this last one. In actuality, every person needs some kind of a job or regular set of tasks/activities that hopefully they enjoy when they retire. Thankfully, I have found a ton of things that fill up my time in retirement, including this website [which I sometimes love writing for, sometimes]. 🙂

Maybe I need to take life more seriously [or maybe not?] depending on one’s perspective. However, I get into these weird moods where I’d much rather just get a laugh than deal with realities and all its intricate details. After all, relationships are hard work in my most humble opinion. Getting back on subject, I can’t remember all the times I’ve replied with silly comebacks on dating sites but there was this one time I’ll never forget. A few years back I was on Match.com when a new profile came up, she was a beautiful brunette in a tight fitting blue dress as I recall, a really attractive woman. All I really wanted was to think of a good way of introducing myself to her in a you know, “break-the-ice” sort of fashion? I remember I was sitting at my desk at work holding the phone in my hands while I stayed on the app for several minutes just trying to come up with something, anything good to say. Then it came to me, I’m going to go casual with this one, casual but unique. I’m going to say something she’s never heard before because I want to be different from all the other guys out there. It was a gamble [I thought] but why not try it? So I wrote a simple question as my entire introduction, I wrote, “Now what are you doing?” [I still crack myself up just thinking about typing this message to a complete stranger.] Still at work I waited for her response, then a couple hours later I received a message back from her and it was scathing! She was pissed, she was like “What’s Wrong With You?! You never ask a lady what she’s doing, you are despicable, and a real loser.” “Never message me again, I’m blocking you!” I was a bit surprised but after reading that I thought to myself, okay, but it’s your loss. If you can’t see the lighthearted humor in my message then… so the question still remains to this day, just what-was-the-pretty-lady-in-the-blue-dress-doing? 🙂
