I always liked this one from Peter Gabriel, circa 1990’s. You can even hear the original band Genesis within it, even though it was recorded way after Peter had left Genesis. Still it has a Genesis imprint all over it which is testament to the fact that Peter Gabriel was a major influence in that band.
Fair Warning: Listening to “Red Rain” may seem almost trifle in scope as there are few lyrics but the song can find a way to stick in your head [hours, even days later] and so deep you’ll be challenged to have it let you go. For me the song’s message is about taking what life has to offer us, even learning to enjoy bathing in its many challenges.
“It’s so hard to lay down in all of this
Red rain coming down…
Red rain is coming down all over me
I see it
Red rain coming down
Red rain is pouring down
Red rain is coming down all over me
I’m bathing in
Red rain coming down
Red rain is coming down
Red rain is coming down all over me…
In the red, red sea,
Over me,
Over me…”
“In Your Eyes”, probably his best ever, and arguably Sledgehammer, these 3 songs on the same album if I recall.
San Jacinto, another great.Yes, I had to go back and listen to more. In your eyes, maybe my favorite of his. It’s quite cruel of you, to force me into listening to a great artist. You’re a Sledgehammer!
